More cushion for the carpet!

Carpet Padding is just as important as the carpet.

Many times one can focus only on the carpet and then just throw in the pad. Yet the life expectancy and comfort of your carpet weighs heavily on the pad you choose.

Yes. The are differences in weight, height, even the bells and whistles. After you choose your carpet it's best to purchase a padding that is recommended by the manufacturer. Padding should last the life of the carpet and be the recommended weight and height to do just that depending on the carpet chosen. Then there is the bells and whistles such as moisture barrier. This prevents spills (or pet accidents) from seeping through the pad and to the sub-floor.

The correct padding can prolong the life of your carpet. It helps not only with comfort but with absorbing the everyday wear and tear your carpet undergoes. Padding also helps maintain the appearance of your carpet.

So you chose a nice dense carpet, great, but without a pad that complements it, the comfort of your carpet will fade quicker than if you have the correct padding to match the density. Not to mention that padding has shock-absorbing properties to add to the comfort of walking on your carpet.

Okay, although you will most likely not be starting a rock band in your living room, it is nice to have reduced noise in your home. Whether you have a two-story home, kids or pets running around or a spouse with a heavy foot, sound-absorbing properties found in padding is a nice added feature.

And here it is. My favorite part of padding is the insulation. We live in an area with cold winters and blasting your heater can get expensive. Carpet padding offers insulation to help keep heat in as opposed to hardwood or tiled floors. On the flip side, when you have your A/C cooling your home, the insulation helps keep the cool air in.
