SPILL CLEANUP TIPS FROM THE PROS:
-
When the spill first happens, our reaction is to grab a carpet chemical solution we bought at Walmart and spray till the spill is soaked. Many of these cleaners can be too harsh for your carpet or tend to leave a residue creating more soiling in the future.
☑️BEST TIP: Grab your mild dish soap and use warm water with a clean cloth. (For tougher stains you can use baking soda and vinegar.)
-
Ok, so you have the cleaning solution. Next we tend to scrub the stain thinking the more pressure, the better result. Yet this can lead to worn fibers or setting the stain in the carpet.
☑️BEST TIP: After you have used a separate cloth to soak up the spill, DAB the stain with your dish soap/warm water cloth. Start on the outermost part of stain and work your way in.
-
Next, we usually go to the drying part now but we can't forget the rinse cycle.
☑️BEST TIP: Lightly pour 3/4-1 cup warm water over the stain for rinsing.
-
Now to dry. We may want to rub a dry cloth to speed up the drying so we can tend to our things.
☑️BEST TIP: Using a dry, clean cloth apply pressure to the stain to soak up the water. If preferred, you can place an object on the cloth and allow time for the soaking-up and drying process.
-
You may be saying, "This seems like a lot of work for one stain." It would be worth it for you in the end to take the time needed to address stains when they happen.
☑️BEST TIP: Have a premade solution and cloths available for when spills happen. This is a great way to save time.
-
Lastly, be sure to get your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year.
☑️BEST TIP: Call JP CARPET for a Professional Carpet Deep Cleaning to keep your carpets looking great and lasting for many more years to come.
